Hunter’s A Bright New Boise is an earnest comedy about the meager profits of modern faith. In the bleak, corporate breakroom of a craft store in Idaho, someone is summoning The Rapture. Will, who has fled his rural hometown after a scandal at his Evangelical church, comes to the Hobby Lobby, not only for employment, but also to rekindle a relationship with Alex, his brooding teenage son, whom he gave up for adoption several years ago. Alex works there along with Leroy, his adopted brother and protector, and Anna, a hapless young woman who reads bland fiction but hopes for dramatic endings. As their manager, foul-mouthed Pauline, tries ceaselessly to find order (and profit) in the chaos of small business, these lost sould of the Hobby Lobby confront an unyielding world thorugh the beige-tinted impossibility of modern faith.

Life and death are up for grabs, and fate is governed by imbeciles and madmen in this darkly comic new play from the acclaimed playwright Martin McDonagh. A Behanding in Spokane turns over American daily existence, exposing the obsessions, prejudices, madness, horrors and, above all, absurdities that crawl beneath it.

The legendary, reclusive Krisit is in her 70s, way too over the hill to be a movie starlet; Peter is in his 50s, way too over the hill to be a young movie director; Lulu is in her 30s, almost too over the hill to be on the list of most influential under the age of 35. How can they face the world? How can they make a deal? How can they all fit into the same bathtub?
Y York is a 1994 graduate of New Dramatists and recipient of N D’s Joe Callaway Award. Y’s plays have received support from the King County, Seattle Arts Commissions, and Artists’ Trust. She received a 1997 Berrilla Kerr Playwrighting Award and is a member of the Dramatists’ Guild. In addition to writing plays, Y was an occasional writer for Little Bear, an animated character on the Nick Jr. channel, and for Videodiscovery, a producer of interactive media. Her plays are produced with regularity at adult and family theatres across the country.
